Charles Edward Geoffrion

Charles Edward Geoffrion, 82, of Fredericksburg, Va., formerly of Lanesborough, died Tuesday at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg. Born in Adams on Aug. 21, 1924, son of Louis and Louise Mercier Geoffrion, he graduated from the former Adams High School in 1943. He was a Navy Air Corps veteran of World War II. Mr. Geoffrion operated a 219-acre farm on Bailey Road for many years, where he kept cattle, operated his own sawmill and produced maple syrup. He also worked as a mechanic at Shapiro Motors in Pittsfield and was a salesman and a parts manager. He was a 30-year member of New Life in Christ Church in Fredericksburg and one of its first deacons and trustees. He and his wife, the former Jacqueline Platner, were married 60 years. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mary Jane Kittredge of Fredericksburg and Patricia Ann Respess of Salisbury, Md.; a sister, Marie Brielman of Pittsfield; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda G. Peters. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The family of Charles E. Geoffrion, who died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 30, from 6 to 8 at COVENANT FUNERAL SERVICE, Fredericksburg, Va. A graveside service will be held Sunday, Oct. 1, at 2 at Laurel Hill Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 4 on Sunday, Oct. 1, at New Life in Christ Church, with his son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Douglas Kittredge, officiating. Memorial donations may be made to New Life in Christ Church Deacons' Sharing Fund or the Church Building Fund, 11925 Burgess Lane, Fredericksburg, VA 22407. He also leaves a son-in-law, James Respess of Salisbury, Md., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Louis Geoffrion Jr. and George Geoffrion.
