Gertrude Malvina Serre

Gertrude Malvina Serre, 99, formerly of 28 Sperry Ave. died yesterday at Sweetbrook Transitional Care and Living Centers in Williamstown. Born in North Adams on July 2, 1907, daughter of Fortunate and Delia Fountaine Serre, she attended schools there, including the former Notre Dame Parochial School. She was a Women's Army Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a technician 5th grade. She was decorated with the Good Drivers Medal and Good Conduct Medal. She was employed by the former Wall-Streeter Shoe Co. for 27 years, retiring in 1971. Prior to that, she was employed by the former Hoosac Mills. She was a longtime communicant of Notre Dame Church, and was a member of the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Gertrude Malvina Serre, who died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, will be celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church in North Adams. Burial with military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donor's choice through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 MARSHALL ST., North Adams. She leaves nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, and her sister-in-law, Dorothea Serre of North Adams. She was predeceased by three brothers, Leo, Armand and Theodore Serre; and a sister, Leona Serre.
