Eleanor G. Kay

Eleanor G. Kay, 89, of 17 High St., Housatonic, died Saturday at Fairview Commons nursing center. Born in Housatonic on June 21, 1917, daughter of Joseph and Mary Bubrzyski Gromelski, she attended local schools and was a 1935 graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge. During World War II, Mrs. Kay worked at the Housatonic post office. After that, she was employed in the office of the former Monument Mills in Housatonic and worked as a teller and receptionist at the former Great Barrington Savings Bank, retiring in 1978. From 1979 to 2003, she was a secretary and receptionist for her nephew, attorney Louis J. Oggiani. She received the Secretary of the Year award from WSBS radio in 1975. She was a communicant of All Saints' Church in Housatonic and a member of its Rosary Sodality and choir. She served on its 75th anniversary, finance and Wigilia committees; as a lector; as a member of the parish council; as a stewardship worker, and as one of its first eucharistic ministers. Her husband, Stanley C. Kay, whom she married Sept. 17, 1938, in All Saints' Church, died April 21, 1991. She leaves three sisters, Frances Sarmuk of Pittsfield, and Helen Oggiani and Sally Dutsch, both of Housatonic. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Eleanor G. Kay, who died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 26, at 10 at All Saints' Church by the Rev. Anthony Jutt, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 4 to 7 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. Expressions of sympathy in Eleanor's memory may be made to Fairview Hospital, in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230-1815.
