Robert M. Hicks

Robert M. Hicks, 76, of Westford, a native of North Adams, died Saturday at Emerson Hospital in Concord after a brief illness. Born on Aug. 17, 1930, son of Murray and Doris Hall Hicks, he graduated from Springfield (Vt.) High School in 1948. He served with the Naval Reserve. Mr. Hicks owned and operated several businesses in Westford, among them Robert M. Hicks Inc. and Robert M. Hicks Realty. He built many homes, creating neighborhoods in Chelmsford and Westford. He was a member of the National Homebuilders Association, where he was a Spike member and past president, and a member of the Northeast Homebuilders and National Rifle associations. He and his wife, the former G. Marie Vinal, were married 55 years. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Katie Wasylak of Dracut; two sons, David Hicks and Russell Hicks, both of Westford; a sister, Barbara Calderone of Chicago; five brothers, William Hicks of Nashua, N.H., Murray Hicks of Dracut, Bruce Hicks of Milford, N.H., and Peter Hicks and Gary Hicks, both of Vermont, and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Robert M. Hicks, who died Oct. 28, 2006, will be held Thursday, Nov. 2, at 11 at DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, Chelmsord. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Westford. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8. He also leaves a son-in-law, Joseph Wasylak; a sister-in-law, Toni Hicks; three grandchildren, Casie Hicks, John J. Wasylak and Briana Phelan, and many nieces and nephews; his close friends, Brenda Bowdy and her family, Roy Lobas, Joyce Sheridan and Wayne Demick.
