Robert J. Ives

Robert J. Ives, 84, of 83 South Beech Plain Road, died Tuesday at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Born in Sandisfield on Feb. 2, 1922, son of Henry and Sarah Brague Ives, he attended Sandisfield schools. Mr. Ives served in the Army during World War II. He was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the New Boston Congregational Church, a life member of the Sandisfield American Legion and a past captain of the Quaker Farms Fire Department, Oxford, Conn. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His wife, the former Jeanette Shelton, whom he married on May 3, 1945, in Oxford, Conn., died June 26, 2001. He leaves three sons, Robert H. Ives of Oxford, Conn., Kenneth L. Ives of Las Cruces, N.M., and Thomas C. Ives of Seymour, Conn.; a daughter, Katherine H. Ives of Sandisfield; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Robert J. Ives, who died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, will be held Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at the New Boston Congregational Church, with the Revs. Louise Daigle and Art Kaufman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sandisfield Center Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 3 at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. Expressions of sympathy in Robert's name may be made to the Sandisfield Volunteer Ambulance Squad in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230-1815.
