Edward E. "Red" Veazie, Jr.

Edward E. "Red" Veazie, Jr., 78, of 18 Summit Ave., died Monday at his home. Born June 30, 1928, in North Adams, son of the late Edward E. and Hester Turrell Veazie, he attended North Adams schools. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, he served for 20 years in the Air Force, receiving his honorable discharge in 1970. Prior to his military service, Mr. Veazie had served as a meat cutter in the former Bateman's Market in North Adams. He later worked for the former Hunter Outdoor Products in North Adams and then the Lipani Manufacturing Co., out of Long Island, N.Y., and Boston, as a supervisor dealing with government contracts. He also worked for five years as a meat cutter at the Price Chopper in Pittsfield. Mr. Veazie enjoyed crossword puzzles, his computer, gardening, and being home with his family. Besides his wife, the former Jean Schonfelder, whom he married May 5, 1956, he leaves a son, Glen Veazie of Pittsfield; two daughters, Lorrie Bloom of North Adams and Kim Anderson of Adams; a brother, Samuel Veazie of North Adams; a sister, Dorothy Salvatore of Lenox; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Martha. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services and burial for Edward E. "Red" Veazie, who died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, will be private. There are no calling hours. Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the home of Mr. Veazie, 18 Summit Ave., Adams. Mr. Veazie also leaves a daughter-in-law, Pamela Veazie of Pittsfield; 2 sons-in-law, North Adams City Councilor Michael Bloom and George Anderson of Adams; seven grandchildren, Amy Anderson and Amanda Anderson; Cynthia Veazie and Brett Veazie; Susan Bloom and Sarah Bloom; and Michael Bloom; and a great-grandson, Denis Veazie. Donations in his memory can be made to the VNA and Hospice of Norther Berkshire through the TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, which is in charge of arrangements.
