Joan Marie Ziter

Joan Marie Ziter, 69, of 69 Davenport St. died Wednesday evening at the Berkshire Medical Center after a three-year battle with multiple myeloma. Born in North Adams on Feb. 20, 1937, daughter of the late Raymond Bissaillon and Vitaline Robert Bissaillon, she graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1954. She also completed classes at the former North Adams State College and Napier College in Edinburgh, Scotland. She was employed as a computer analyst with Kendall Health Care, a division of TYCO International, in Mansfield until her retirement in 2001. Prior to that, she was employed as an executive secretary at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams, and also at its plants in Mansfield and Sanford, Maine, from 1975 until 1993. She lived in Nashua, N.H., from 1968 to 1971 and in Grafton, Wis. from 1971 to 1973. She returned to North Adams from 1973 until 1983, when she moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1983 and 1984 and then to Taunton from 1985 to 2001, and returned to North Adams in 2001 following her retirement. Mrs. Ziter was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in North Adams. Mrs. Ziter was a member of the North Adams Historical Society, the North Adams Council on Aging and the Sprague Gold Card Club, and was a volunteer at the Northern Berkshire Visitor's Information Booth. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting and embroidery, and especially baking. She leaves her husband of 50 years, Louis R. Ziter, whom she married on April 14, 1956, in Notre Dame Church. Also, she leaves a son, Alan R. Ziter of San Diego; two daughters, Linda A. Ziter of Providence, R.I., and Nancy M. Ziter of San Diego; and a sister, Ruth Blue of Warwick, R.I. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joan Ziter, who died peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, will be held Monday at 10:15 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, celebrated by the Rev. William F. Cyr, pastor. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in care of the funeral home, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA 01247. She leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Bissaillon, who died in 1975, and Raymond Bissaillon, who died in 2001. She was well known for her baking. She was a devoted wife and mother who cherished her family and friends.
