Andrew "Gumpy" Fosty Jr.

Andrew "Gumpy" Fosty Jr., 57, of 65 Columbus Ave. died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on June 30, 1949, son of the late Andrew Fosty Sr. and Nancy Spence Fosty, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mr. Fosty was a glazier for more than 20 years at area glass shops, including Martino Glass, Juny's Glass, Berkshire Plate Glass and Pro Glass. He also was an artist and displayed his work at many exhibitions in the Berkshires. He enjoyed gourmet cooking and biking. He leaves a son, Christopher A. Fosty of Lenox; a brother, Patrick J. Fosty Sr. of Pittsfield; a sister, Deborah A. Chaffee of Pittsfield; and three grandchildren. His former wife, Nancy A. Grizey Fosty Swanson, died June 4, 2001. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Andrew "Gumpy" Fosty Jr., who died Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, will be conducted tomorrow at noon at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home tomorrow from 11 to noon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials in his memory be made to establish an education fund for his three grandchildren in care of his sister, Deborah A. Chaffee, 1083 Tyler St. Extension, Pittsfield, MA 01201. Mr. Fosty leaves his three loving grandchildren, Hailey, Hannah and Heidi Fosty; a daughter-in-law, Amy Fosty; a brother-in-law, Donald L. Chaffee; several nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion, Denise Lokker.
