Eleanor Culver

Eleanor Culver, 82, of Amenia, N.Y., died Sunday at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.. She was the mother of Kimberly Moore of Great Barrington. Born in Sharon, Conn., on July 22, 1924, daughter of Edward and Lillian Hubbard Webb, she graduated from Millerton High School and the Krissler Business Institute. She was employed for several years as a secretary in the office of the Surrogate Judge of Dutchess County. She and her husband of 60 years, Walter B. Culver, owned and operated Culver Farms in Amenia. Mrs. Culver was one of the first woman elders of the Amenia Presbyterian Church and had served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a member and past president of The Coterie, co-founded the "Bit-n-Spur" horse club and was a member and past matron of the Harlem Valley Chapter 703 Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, dancing and traveling. She was a former Miss Millerton. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Christine Mandel of Amenia and Kimberly Moore of Great Barrington; a brother, Robert Webb of Millerton; a half-brother, Edward Webb of Candlewood Lake, Conn.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Eleanor Culver, who died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, will be by her immediate family and burial will be in Irondale Cemetery in Millerton, N.Y. Those who so desire may contribute in Eleanor's memory to Cancer Research, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. She also leaves two sons-in-law, John and Stephen; five grandchildren, Vanessa Castro, Alexandra Clough, Joshua Mandel, Jesse Mandel and Tyler Moore; and four great-grandchildren, Teddy Clough, Lorenzo Castro, Madeleine Clough and Miranda Castro.
