John P. Leroy

John P. Leroy, 80, formerly of Cheshire, died Nov. 17 at Tabor Hills Health Care Services in Naperville, Ill. Born in North Adams on June 28, 1926, son of John W. and Margaret Purcell Leroy, he was a 1944 graduate of the former Adams High School and was raised in Cheshire. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Italy, Budapest and Hungary with the Allied Control Commission. He was employed by O'Hare Airpot's Sky Chef as a supervisor. He and his wife, Virginia Ross, were married in 1958 in Chicago. She died in 1995. He was a parishioner or St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Illinois and a fourth degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus 654. He was also a member of the Steam Engine Society of Illinois and a member of VFW post 2298 of Dundee, Ill. He leaves two stepsons, A.S. "John" Ross and Gordon Ross, both of Illinois; a stepdaughter, Cledith Ross Ruden of Illinois; two sisters, Shirley Tremblay of Pittsfield and Margaret Cuckovich of Rochester, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for John P. Leroy, who died Friday, Nov. 17, will be conducted tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. in the LAIRD FUNERAL HOME, 310 South State St., Elgin, Il., by the Rev. Geoffrey Wirth. Burial will be in Pittsfield. Calling hours will be at the funeral home tomorrow from 5 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VITAS Hospice Services, 580 Waters Edge, Lombard, IL 60148 or to Knights of Columbus No. 654, 10 Villa Court, Elgin, IL 60120. He also leaves seven grandchildren of whom he was very proud, Adrianne (David) Simons, Perdita (Gordon) Halleck, Kevin (Olga) Ross, Peter (Annie) Ruden, Brian (Erin) Ruden, Kathleen Ross and Darin (Michelle) Ross.
