Virginia May Mongeon

Virginia May Mongeon, 76, of 6 Glenns Road died Monday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after a long illness. Born in Pittsfield on May 18, 1930, daughter of John and Blanche Royer Fox, she attended local schools and was a 1947 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Primarily a homemaker, at one time Mrs. Mongeon had been employed at Stop & Shop on Merrill Road as a front desk clerk and head cashier. She was a communicant of North American Martyrs' Church and enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and reading. She and her husband, Archie C. Mongeon, were married March 3, 1951, at St. Mary Church. Besides her husband, she leaves three daughters, Kathy A. Shallies of Dalton, Sheryl J. Davis of Burlington, Vt., and Joanne E. Rosier of Lanesborough; four sons, Steven D. Mongeon of Pittsfield, Brian F. Mongeon of Dalton, Craig J. Mongeon of Dedham and Allan C. Mongeon of Savoy; a brother, John J. Fox of Danvers; a sister, Joan Rathbun of Lanesborough; and 16 grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Virginia M. Mongeon, who died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, by the Rev. David R. Raymond, pastor of North American Martyr's Church. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Lanesborough. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Lanesborough Fire Department or to Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association, both in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Mongeon is lovingly survived by her 16 grandchildren, Steven Mongeon Jr., Matthew, Michael, Jerred, Jessica and Colleen Mongeon, Nicholas, Evan and Kaelyn Shallies, Luke and Justin Sullivan, Shelby Davis, Roy DuBois, and Jeramie, Joshua and Jaden Rosier. Also by three sons-in-law, Steven Shallies, Kevin Davis and Michael Rosier Jr.; three daughters-in-law, Sherry, Sharon and Cindy Mongeon; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Derosier and Marilyn Fox; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Derosier and Earl Rathbun.
