Alexander D. Bonak

Alexander D. Bonak, 85, of Clayton Road in the village of Ashley Falls, died Monday at Fairview Hospital. Born in Stockbridge on March 27, 1921, son of Stephen and Anna Olinda Banach, he attended local schools and graduated from the former Williams High School in Stockbridge. Mr. Bonak was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was retired from Barberi's Lumber Yard, where he had worked as a truck driver for many years. Mr. Bonak was a communicant of St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington, and was a member of the Adams Budz VFW Post in Housatonic. He and his wife, the former Lavinia "Lee" Duncan, were married for 54 years. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Dorothy Thornton of Naples, Fla.; two brothers, John Bonak of California and Chester Bonak of Stockbridge; a sister, Alice Badurski of Stockbridge; and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Alexander D. Bonak, who died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington by the Rev. William Murphy, pastor. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Great Barrington. The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at FINNERTY AND STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Those who desire may make contributions in Alexander's memory to either St. Peter's Church Ramp Fund or Brain Tumor Research Fund of the American Cancer Society through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. He also leaves a son-in-law, Paul, and three grandchildren, Lauren Herder and her husband Carl and Thomas and Lisa Thornton. He was predeceased by his brothers Stanley, Anthony, Benjamin, Raymond, and by a sister, Anna Bonak.
