Helen Cecilia Gwozdz Armata

Helen Cecilia Gwozdz Armata, 88, of 59 East St., died Monday at North Adams Regional Hospital following a long illness. Born in Adams on Dec. 23, 1918, daughter of Piotr and Bronislawa Banas Gwozdz, she attended schools in Adams, including St. Stanislaus Kostka School, and graduated from the former Adams High School in 1934. She received a bachelor's degree in education from the former North Adams State College in 1939. Mrs. Armata was an elementary school teacher in the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District in the 1940s and mid-1960s, and specialized in working with special needs students in the 1970s, until her retirement in 1979. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. She was also a member of the St. Stanislaus Rosary Sodality, the St. Cecilia's Choir, the TMTM club and the National Education Association. She enjoyed reading and loved dancing and music. She had been involved in many theatrical productions at college and in her church. Mrs. Armata leaves her husband, Roman J. Armata, whom she married on April 23, 1946. In addition to her husband, she leaves five daughters, Mary Roy of Windsor, Theresa Armata of Bennington, Vt., and Christine Moyer, and Bernadette and Barbara Armata, all of Adams; one son, Joseph R. Armata of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Virginia Maguire of Pittsfield and Joan Bodzioch of North Kingston, R.I.; and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Helen Cecilia Gwozdz Armata, who died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, will be held tomorrow , at 9 a.m. from PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Members of St. Stanislaus Rosary Sodality will meet at 4:40 p.m. at the funeral home to recite the rosary. Memorial donations may be made to the Adams Ambulance Service, the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, or St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Mrs. Armata also leaves two sons-in-law, Glenn Roy and John Moyer; a brother-in-law, Anthony Maguire; five grandchildren, Jennifer Leighfield and her husband Jed, Daniel Roy and his wife Tristin, and John, Luke and Seth Moyer; several nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by four sisters, Mary Davies, Felicia Gwozdz, Kazmiera Murphy and Cecilia Olsztyn, and by two brothers, Stanley and Joseph Gwozdz. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Erik Roy.
