Paul W. Miner

Paul W. Miner, D.V.M., 84, of 17 Cherry St., died Saturday at home. Born in Chicago on Jan. 17, 1923, son of Frederick T. and Marion Potts Miner, he was a 1942 graduate of the Pennington (N.J.) School, where he received medals for baseball, track and basketball. He attended Rutgers University from 1942 to 1943. He attended the pre-veterinary program at the University of New Hampshire from 1945 to 1947 and was a 1951 graduate Cornell University, obtaining a degree in veterinary science. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Medical Detachment 363rd Infantry. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Mr. Miner was employed as a veterinarian by the Department of Agriculture in the Boston Division, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Stockbridge, was superintendent of the church's Sunday school and on its board of trustees. Mr. Miner and his wife, the former Sally Doran, were married Feb. 6, 1947, in Bristol, N.H. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Eric P. Miner and Bruce A. Miner, both of Stockbridge; two daughters, Jan K. Miner-Hayes of Becket and Diane "DeDe" Miner-Rathbun of Egremont; three brothers, David R. Miner of Barton, Vt., Donald R. Miner of Hendersonville, N.C., and Norman G. Miner of Hartsville, S.C.; and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral and burial for Paul W. Miner, D.V.M., who died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, is in charge of arrangements. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Theresa; two sons-in-law, Marc and Will; and four grandchildren, Sean Elliot, Wesley Buckley, and Austin and Julia Miner.
