Wildred Irene Briggs

Wildred Irene Briggs, 94, of 722 West Shaft Road, died Thursday at North Adams Commons. Born in North Adams on Aug. 21, 1912, daughter of Arthur and Mary Jane Daniels Hosley, she attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1930. Mrs. Briggs was employed as a cook at Child Care of the Berkshires and the Blackington Rest Home, retiring in March 1990. Before that, she was employed by the former HW Clark Biscuit Co., the former Sprague Electric Co., and as a housekeeper in private homes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1930. She was also a member of the North Adams Historical Society. At one time, she was the leader of the 4-H Club. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, knitting and gardening. She and her husband, Harlow Briggs, were married July 15, 1939. He died June 17, 1948. Mrs. Briggs leaves three daughters, Patricia J. Sapienza and Joan L. Morandi, both of North Adams, and Norma J. Randall of Morganton, N.C.; a brother, Roscoe Hosley of Peacedale, R.I.; a sister, Elva Lloyd of Northbridge; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A daughter, Judy D. Conboy, died February 25, 1977. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service to celebrate the life of Wildred Briggs, who died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams. The Rev. David Anderson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Thursday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. to the time of service. The omission of flowers is requested. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Adams Ambulance Service in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Briggs also leaves three sons-in-law, Gerold, Edward and Richard; eight grandchildren, Bryan Sapienza, Dawn Blondin, Marcus Morandi, Aaron Sapienza, Denise Remillard, Deborah Morandi, Amy Randall and Carla Thomas; eight great-grandchildren, Zachary Remillard, Cody Remillard, Quincy Blondin, Jacob Blondin, Jared Blondin, Brandi Blondin, Robert Thomas and Sabrina Thomas; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A brother and three sisters are deceased: Elmer Hosley, Helen Solovey, Mary Prinzivalli and Marjorie Moon.
