Victor John Bednarz

Victor John Bednarz, 73, of 16 Smith St. died yesterday at home. Born in Adams on Aug. 16, 1933, son of Victor S. Bednarz and Julia Hoczela Bednarz Ciuk, he graduated from the former Adams High School in 1951. An Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he served from 1952 to 1956. Mr. Bednarz was a plumber for Ouellette Plumbing and Heating for 35 years, retiring in 1995. He served as an Adams firefighter and was elected to the Alert Hose Company on Jan. 4, 1966. He served as foreman of the company from 1972 to 1974 and retired on May 3, 1977, as an honorary member. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and enjoyed football, deep-sea fishing and being a member of the morning coffee club at the Convenient Store. He and his wife, the former Barbara J. Heywood, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 27. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, John Bednarz of Adams; four daughters, Julie Russell of Holden, Brenda Skalski of Adams, Jennifer Quinn of Webster and Vicki Shipley of Fort Drum, N.Y.; two sisters, Theresa Zieminski of Cheshire and Lorraine Tanguay of New Jersey; his stepfather, Michael Ciuk of Williamstown; and 13 grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Victor John Bednarz, who died Thursday, March 22, 2007, will be Monday, March 26, at 9 a.m. from PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic Parishes of Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, P.O. Box 869, North Adams, MA 01247. Mr. Bednarz also leaves a daughter-in-law Karen Bednarz; four sons-in-law, Mark Russell, David Skalski, Michael Quinn and Steven Shipley; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
