James Babcock Fales

James Babcock Fales, 90, of Southbury, Conn., formerly of Otis and Venice, Fla., died Tuesday at Danbury (Conn.) Hospital after suffering a stroke. Born in West Medway on Oct. 28, 1916, son of James and Mary Babcock Fales, he graduated from Leominster High School in 1936 and from Leland Powers School of Broadcasting in Boston in 1938. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Guadalcanal, 336 Quartermaster Depot Company. He was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant on Dec. 11, 1945. Mr. Fales was employed by Norcross Greeting Cards for more than 35 years, both in Boston and in New York City, serving as vice president of sales and marketing. He then joined his son, Tenney Fales, at T.E. Fales Construction Co. in Otis, serving in the same capacity for 12 years. Following his retirement in 1987, he lived in Venice before moving to Southbury three years ago. He and his wife, the former Charlotte A. Marshall, were married 66 years. Besides his wife and son, of Egremont, he leaves two other sons, James Fales of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and Bradford Fales of Nakomis, Fla; two daughters Susan Marzi of Southbury and MaryBeth Webeler of Downers Grove, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for James Babcock Fales, who died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, at noon at Crowne Plaza in Southbury, Conn. Burial will be in Venice, Fla., at a later date. Mr. Fales also leaves three daughters-in-law, Gene, Linda and Lynne Fales; two sons-in-law, Marty Marzi and Bob Webeler; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson and three sisters.

I know JB Fales when he lived in Norwalk, CT in the late 60s and early 70s. He and his wife Charlotte were two one of the kindest people I have ever known. Rest in peace.
