Joseph A. Finn

Joseph A. Finn, 81, of 94 Depot St., Westford, formerly of Sheffield, died Thursday at Emerson Hospital in Concord. Born in Great Barrington on June 24, 1925, he was the son of James P. and Esther Costello Finn. Mr. Finn was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a combat infantryman with the 69th Infantry Division. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the WWII Victory Ribbon. He was employed by the Mass State Department of Public Works as a chauffeur laborer. Mr. Finn was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He and his wife, the former Ann E. Small, were married on Aug. 7, 1948, at Our Lady of the Valley Church. She died Nov. 6, 2004. Mr. Finn leaves two sons, Michael J. Finn of South Bend, Ind., and Joseph G. Finn of Quincy; a daughter, Ann Detlefs of Westford, with whom he resided; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joseph A. Finn, who died Thursday, March 22, 2007, will be Friday at 10 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Church, Great Barrington, celebrated by the Rev. William Murphy, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Joseph's memory be made to the Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, 01230. Mr. Finn also leaves two daughters-in-law, Sheila and Dolores Finn; a son-in-law, David Detlefs; and twin great-grandchildren, Meghan and Sean Kelly. He was predeceased by two brothers, James and John Finn, and a sister, Alice Finn Mattie.
