Stella Bernat

Stella Bernat, 88, formerly of 5 Edmund St., died yesterday at North Adams Commons. Born in Adams on Oct. 9, 1918, daughter of Peter and Hanora Ostrobinski Zgrzebniak, she attended local schools. A homemaker, Mrs. Bernat worked for a short time for the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates before her marriage. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church. He husband, Michael Bernat, whom she married May 30, 1940, died May 14, 1981. She leaves two daughters, Sandra Tassone of Adams and Carol Rancatti of Salem, N.H.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Stella Bernat, who died Saturday, April 7, 2007, will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic Community of Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus' Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Joseph and Walter Zgrzebniak, and two sisters, Helen Kurley and Gladys Strzepek, are deceased.
