Jocelyn Nichols

Jocelyn Nichols, 77, of Ramsdell Road, died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Dec. 1, 1929, daughter of George and Guiseppa Valvo Foster, she grew up in New York City and attended schools there. She moved to Great Barrington to complete her schooling at the original Brookside School. After graduating, she returned to New York City, then moved back to Great Barrington in 1951. Mrs. Nichols owned and operated Open House gift shop. Before that, she was employed by Berkshire Hills Regional School District. Her husband, Clarence Nichols, whom she married in 1987, is deceased. She was a hospice volunteer and enjoyed gardening and exercise. She leaves two daughters, Carol Nichols of Cascade, Mont., and Julie Crandall of Kalispell, Mont.; three sons, John "Buzz" Nichols of Santa Fe, N.M., Christopher Nichols of Long Grove, Ill., and Craig Nichols of Wilmington, N.C.; six grandchildren; and her former husband, John Nichols of Port Townsend, Wash. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Jocelyn Nichols left her earthly bounds to join God and her husband on Monday, April 2, 2007. A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at St. James' Episcopal Church in Great Barrington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James' Building Fund or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, through FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Mrs. Nichols also leaves two daughters-in-law, Cheryl (Craig) and Janet (Christopher) Nichols; a son-in-law, Brian (Julie) Crandall; and six grandchildren, Desiree, Ryan, Tyler, Coltran, Abretia and Sierra.
