Thomas R. Tyler, 76, of 23 Cliff Ave., died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 25, 1930, son of John R. and Louise Joyner Tyler, he was a 1948 graduate of Lenox High School. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served in Korea from 1949 to 1952. Mr. Tyler was employed by Abbott's Limousine Service as a chaffeur, retiring in 2003 because of illness. Before that, he was employed by the Pittsfield Milk Exchange and by Coca-Cola Co. He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and a member of the Dalton American Legion, and the Stockbridge Lions and Pittsfield Elks clubs. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants. He and his wife, the former Dorothy E. Studley, were married Jan. 8, 1988. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Michael Tyler of Pittsfield; a stepson, Michael Casella of Stephentown, N.Y.; two daughters, Michelle Berkeley of Pittsfield and Patricia Tyler of Niskayuna, N.Y.; a sister, Joyce Leydet of Lenox Dale; a brother, Jack Joyner of Pittsfield; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mr. Thomas Tyler, who died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Peter Gregory, pastor of St. Charles' Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made to the Lions' Eye Research or to the ALS foundation, both in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Mr. Tyler's greatest pleasure was being a chauffeur to his granddaughter Havah. Two sisters, Marion Wellington and Phyllis Pereglou, predeceased him.
