Halina H. Sobczak

Halina H. Sobczak, 80, of High Street, Housatonic, died Tuesday at Fairview Hospital. Born in Poland on May 8, 1926, daughter of Stanislaus and Karolina Lorens, she was raised in Kroscienko Wyzneon and emigrated to the United States in 1950. Mrs. Sobczak was employed by the Marian Fathers at Eden Hill in Stockbridge as a shipping clerk, retiring in 1991 with 20 years of service. Before that, she worked at the former Monument Mills. She was a communicant of All Saints' Church in Housatonic and a member of its Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening and cooking. Her husband, Alfons S. Sobczak, died Sept. 15, 1986. They had been married for 41 years. She leaves a son, Tadeusz "Ted" Sobczak of Grantville, Pa.; four daughters, Zenobia Viola of Great Barrington, Christina Kruszyna of Housatonic, Adela Costello of Graniteville, Vt., and S. Susan Dargi of the town of Washington; a brother, Stanislaus Sobczak of Kroscienko Wyzneon, Poland; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A daughter, Urszula Sobczak, is deceased. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private funeral for Halina H. Sobczak, who died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, will be celebrated at All Saints' Church. Burial also will be private and in St. Bridget's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Sobczak also leaves a daughter-in-law, Linda; four sons-in-law, Andrew (Zenobia), John (Christine, Michael (Adela) and Michael (S. Susan); nine grandchildren, with whom she enjoyed spending time, Jennifer, Heather, Michael, Damian, Christal, Victor, Kristin, Johnny and Nicholas; and three great-grandchildren, Hailey, William and Clara. Two sisters are deceased.
