Mary Harbach Ivory

Mary Harbach Ivory, 89, formerly of Heaton Court, died yesterday at Laurel Lake Center in Lee, where she had resided since May 2004. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., on Sept. 6, 1917, daughter of Paul and Marie Zahn Harbach, she was a 1935 graduate of St. Vincent DePaul High School, and then attended business school. She worked for the Nettleton Shoe Co. in Syracuse as a secretary. From 1959 until 1970, she worked as a secretary for Syracuse University. She lived in Jamesville, N.Y. from 1947 until 1978, then in Fayetteville, N.Y., from 1978 until moving to Great Barrington in 1980, and then to Stockbridge in 1995. Mrs. Ivory was a former communicant of St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington. She was a member of the Thursday Morning Club, a member of Fairview Hospital Auxiliary, a hospital volunteer and a volunteer at Chesterwood Estate and Museum in Stockbridge. Her husband, Robert Ivory, whom she married in June 1940, died in November 1980. She leaves two sons, Paul W. Ivory of Great Barrington and Robert C. Ivory Jr. of Keller, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mary Harbach Ivory, who died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in Mary's memory may be made to Fairview Hospital Auxiliary, in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, who is in charge of arrangements. Mary leaves five grandchildren, Graham, Christopher, Jonathan, Nathaniel and Ian Ivory, and her very close niece and nephew, Margaret Hopsicker and Edward Benjamin. She was predeceased by one sister, Mabel Benjamin, who died Dec. 26, 1991.
