Gerald "Jerry" Bassett

Gerald "Jerry" Bassett, 64, of 174 N. Summer St., died Sunday, at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 28, 1942, son of Earl and Norma Lewis Bassett, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1960 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mr. Bassett worked as a salesman for Wayside Furniture until his retirement at age 52. Previously, he worked for General Electric Co. from 1963 until 1968 and then briefly for Forbes & Wallace furniture store. Mr. Bassett was a Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He loved music and was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Pittsfield, where he played the organ. He leaves a daughter, Laurie Ann Bassett of Hinsdale; two sons, Jeffrey and Eric Bassett, both of Pittsfield; a sister, Betty Bassett-May of Sagamore Beach; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A daughter, Lisa Marie Bassett, predeceased him in 1969. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Gerald N. Bassett, who died Sunday, April 29, 2007, will be held Friday, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Pittsfield, with the Rev. Hannah Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, 7 Washington Square, Albany, NY, 12205. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East Street, Pittsfield, is in charge of arrangements. Friends and family will gather at the ITAM Lodge in Pittsfield following services for a celebration of Jerry's life. Mr. Bassett also leaves a brother-in-law, Homer May; eight grandchildren, Trisha, Derek, Joshua, Ashley, Shannon, Alanna and Krista Bassett; and one great-grandson, Jaeden; also, two daughters-in-law, Wendy Appleton and Diane Whaland; and two former wives, Sarah Bragg and Patricia Wadsworth. He also leaves his former long-time companion, Teresa Purcell-Torres, and her three children Keri, James, and Nicki Purcell. Mr. Bassett was predeceased by a brother, David Bassett.
