Dorothy Garity Wilson

Dorothy Garity Wilson, 86, of 5 Cornell Lane, died Friday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center, where she had resided since September 2006. Born in Westfield on May 3, 1921, daughter of Harold and Belle Cassaline Sherman, she attended schools there. Mrs. Wilson and her husband, the late Thomas B. Wilson, owned and operated Wilson's Guest House and Apartments in Stockbridge from 1959 to 1979. She and her first husband, Joseph Garity, whom she married in 1942, owned and operated Wayside Inn in New Lebanon, N.Y. After his death in 1954, she continued running the inn until 1959. She volunteered for the Pittsfield Parade Committee for many years at the Dalton Follies and at local theaters Florida, where she made costumes and worked backstage; for the Share the Food program in Dalton; and for the annual Crane & Co. paper sale at the Dalton Community Center. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, and watching hummingbirds, bears and moose. She and her husband were married in 1959. He died in January 1994. Before their retirement, they spent 10 winters in Punta Gorda-Belize, Central America. She moved to Peru in 1979 for the summer and spent winters in Tavares, Fla. She leaves nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A service of remembrance for Dorothy Sherman Garity Wilson, who died Friday, May 4, 2007, will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. at BARTLETT WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. Burial will follow in the Cemetery of the Evergreens in New Lebanon, N.Y. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested for the Pittsfield Parade Committee, care of the funeral home. Mrs. Wilson also leaves two cousins and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Sherman. She was a loving friend to all who knew her. She will be missed by all.
