Maurice E. Rice Sr.

Maurice E. Rice Sr., 70, of Benton Hill Road, died Tuesday at home. He was a former volunteer Becket firefighter. Born in Becket on July 13, 1936, son of Arthur E. and Ethel Ransom Rice, he attended schools in Chester. Mr. Rice was employed by the former Bendix Abrasive for 39 years, retiring in 2002. At one time, he also was a custodian for the Central Berkshire Regional School District. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and building model airplanes. He and his wife, the former Janice R. Mitchell, were married 51 years. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Maurice E. Rice Jr. of Hinsdale and Richard A. Rice of Chester; two daughters, Jeanne M. Flynn of Dalton and Denice A. Comeau of Adams; two sisters, Louise M. Trudeau of Chester and Donna A. Kocal of Westfield; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Maurice E. Rice Sr., who died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, also leaves four grandchildren, Jennifer Radwich, Eric Rice Sr., and Nicole and Nadine Flynn; and two great-grandchildren, Eric Rice Jr. and Dane Radwich. A graveside service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at North Becket Cemetery.
