George E. Horner

George E. Horner, 92, of Providence Court died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on April 11, 1915, son of George F. and Katherine Keresey Horner, he attended local schools and received his general equivalency diploma in 1938 and his diploma from Pittsfield High School in 1953. During World War II, Mr. Horner was a member of the Signal Corps. Mr. Horner was employed by Vitro Labs in Silver Springs, Md., from 1961 until retiring in 1982. Before that, he was employed by General Electric Co. as a technician from 1944 to 1961. He spent summers in Lanesborough and winters in Silver Springs, Fla., for 10 years. At one time, his family owned the Churchill Crest property. He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and enjoyed metal works, reading, woodworking and repairing cars. He and his wife, the former Arbutis Knight, were married Feb. 7, 1941. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Ann Breeden of Sullivan, Maine; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- George E. Horner died Sunday, May 13, 2007. He also leaves a son-in-law, Paul Breeden, and a niece, Carolyn "Honey" McMahon. A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Charles' Church. His brother, John R. Horner, and his sister, Evelyn Carolan, are deceased. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Charles' Church in care of DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, in his memory.
