Joseph G. Wirth

Joseph G. Wirth, 81, of West Street, died at home on Monday. Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Nov. 17, 1925, son of Joseph and Mathilde Obergrieser Wirth, he was raised and educated in Germany and came to the United States in 1940. He lived in New York City for 15 years and moved to Sandisfield in 1955. He began Wirth Electrical Contracting in 1964 and retired in 1987. Mr. Wirth was a member of the Great Barrington Lions Club for many years. He volunteered for the Sandisfield Fire Department, was a member of the Board of Assessors and the Planning Board in Sandisfield, and was the longtime wire inspector for the towns of Sandisfield, Otis and Tolland. He was a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Otis. Besides his wife of 52 years, Anita Giegerich Wirth, he leaves two daughters, Wanda Beckwith of Great Barrington and Heidi Wirth-Paterno of Ohio; a son, Richard Wirth of Sandisfield; and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours for Joseph G. Wirth, who died Monday, June 4, 2007, will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service immediately following at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Great Barrington Lion's Club or to St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Otis, through the funeral home. He leaves two grandchildren, Jessica and Thomas Palivoda, and a son-in-law, John Beckwith.
