Alfred C. Griswold

Alfred C. Griswold, 84, of 47 Windsor Court, Keene, died Sunday morning at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene following a short illness. Born Sept. 13, 1922, in Cheshire, the son of Alfred W. and Lynda Hewitt Griswold, he attended North Adams schools and was a 1941 graduate of Drury High School. He worked for General Electric Co. in Pittsfield, Gale Shoe Co. in North Adams, Cornish Wire in Williamstown, and Philadelphia Insulated Wire in Philadelphia. A 31-year resident of North Adams, he moved to Keene in 1960 and was the owner of Jeanie's 1-Hour Martinizing. He sold this company in 1974 and went into real estate management and sales. In 1995, he went to work for Paquette Appraisers on Central Square in Keene and was still working there until the time of his death. Mr. Griswold was a member of the Keene Country Club for 45 years. He was also a member of St. Margaret Mary's Church and served the church as an usher for 25 years. Mr. Griswold was a 45-year member of the Elks Lodge No. 927 and a member the Knights of Columbus, both in Keene. He was a member of the New Hampshire Associates of Realtors and the Monadnock Board of Realtors. He especially enjoyed playing golf, and was a fan of the N.Y. Yankees and the N.Y. Jets. His first wife, Virignia Jean LaBombard, died in 1995. He leaves his wife, the former Beatrice LaPerle, whom he married in October 2002; and five stepchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Alfred C. Griswold, who died Sunday, June 10, 2007, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Margaret Mary Church on Arch Street in Keene. Friends are invited. Calling hours will be held at the FLETCHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREATION SERVICES, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will take place at the family lot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Keene. It has been requested that gifts be made in memory of Mr. Griswold to St. Margaret Mary Liturgical Appointments, c/o the parish office at 161 Main St., Keene, NH. 03431, or to the Kingsbury Center for Cancer Care, 580 Court St., Keene, NH 03431. Mr. Griswold also was survived by stepchildren, Cindy and Steve Richardson of Randolph Center, Vt., Dorrene and Hakan Karlsson of Strangnas Sweden, Jane and Carson Graves of Keene, Carol Normandin of Southington, Ct., and Barry and Emily Camp of East ‘Winthrop, Maine; two nieces, Jane and John Welch of Ormand Beach, Fla., and Carol and Richard Mayer of Brattleboro, Vt., and Arthur Griswold of Tewksbury; and 12 step-grandchildren. He has three brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law, also nieces and nephews from his first marriage. He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
