Irene J. Parmelee

Irene J. Parmelee, 87, of 266 Shadowland Cove, a former longtime resident of 125 Onota St. in Pittsfield, died Tuesday at Springside of Pittsfield. Born in Holyoke on July 14, 1919, daughter of Alexander and Sophie Plotczyk Bachuzewski, she moved to Pittsfield as a young girl and was a 1937 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Parmelee worked at Westinghouse while raising her family. Before her marriage, she was a hairdresser. She was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality, and a member of the Cheshire Kiwanis Club and of the former Bartlett School Parent Teacher Association. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, cooking and bird watching. Her husband, William H. "Grassy" Parmelee Jr., whom she married Nov. 26, 1942, died April 4. She leaves a daughter, Christine Merlet of Cheshire; a son, William H. Parmelee III of Pittsfield; a brother, Thomas Batch of Hudson, N.Y.; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Irene J. Parmelee, 87, who died Tuesday, June 12, 2007, will be Friday at 9:15 a.m. from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Church by the Rev. John Salatino, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter or the Alzheimer's Association, both in care of the funeral home. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Wendy Parmelee, Shane C. and Cathleen Doolan, and William H. Parmelee IV; and with her five step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren and her cat, Pilot. She was predeceased by a brother, Alexander Bachuzewski.
