Francis J. "Ruby" Olszewski

Francis J. "Ruby" Olszewski, 79, of 11 Wyantenuck St., died Wednesday at Fairview Hospital. Born in Great Barrington on April 11, 1928, son of Joseph and Katherine Krzynowek Olszewski, he attended local schools. He served in the Navy during World War II. A licensed insurance appraiser and auto body repairman, he was employed by Dempsey's Garage, John's Auto Body and Carlson Auto Body, retiring in 1992. He was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Mount Everett Council 513. He enjoyed bowling, basketball, the Boston Red Sox, gardening and especially cars. He and his wife, the former Theresa M. Cook, were married June 14, 1952, in St. Mary's Church in Pittsfield. Besides his wife, Mr. Olszewski leaves a son, Dennis F. Olszewski of Great Barrington; a daughter, Diane Tracy of Great Barrington; two brothers, Edmund S. Olszewski of Newman, Ga., and Robert J. Olszewski of Phoenix; two sisters, Victoria H. Wool of Great Barrington and Janet J. Soldati of Housatonic; and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The Liturgy of Christian Burial for Francis J. "Ruby" Olszewski, who died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church by the Rev. William Murphy, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Housatonic. Family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy in Ruby's memory be made to the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Mr. Olszewski also leaves a daughter-in-law, Linda; a son-in-law, John; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Caitlin and Joseph Tracy. A brother, Richard J. Olszewski, died in 2001.
