Harold J. "Mike" Deneault

Harold J. "Mike" Deneault, 90, of 504 Summer St., died Monday at home. Born in Burlington, Vt., on Feb. 25, 1917, son of George and Lottie Poirier Deneault, he was a graduate of Burlington High School and of Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, N.H. An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1944 to 1946 in the European theater with the 117th General Hospital. He was an athletic trainer and coach at Kimball Union and Milton academies for many years, retiring in 1982. He and his wife, the former Phyllis Holden, worked many summers at Birch Rock Camp in Waterford, Maine. He also served as a coordinator and Maine guide for canoe and camping trips and, in later years, was co-director and then director of the camp. His wife, whom he married April 17, 1944, at Fort Devens, died March 29, 2002. He leaves a daughter, Ann Deneault of Lanesborough; two sons, Jason Deneault of Cambridge and Michael Deneault of Townsend; a sister, Pauline Letourneau of Mission Viejo, Calif.; a brother, Harvey Deneault of Dunnellon, Fla.; and two step-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Harold J. "Mike" Deneault, 90, died at home on July 23, 2007, with his children by his side. A memorial gathering to celebrate his life and spirit will be held at his home on Aug. 12 at 2 p.m. Burial will be at a later date with his wife in Mountainview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to Birch Rock Camp or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. He also leaves his step-grandchildren, Ashley and Eric Clement; and his two furry golden retriever friends, Kramer and Abbey. The motto of Birch Rock Camp, "Help the Other Fellow," is how he chose to live his life. He was a man with a great smile, sense of humor and a strong dedication to his family and friends.
