Leonard H. Hamling Sr.

Leonard H. Hamling Sr., 89, of 8 Shamrock St. died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Red Rock, N.Y., on March 9, 1918, son of Albert and Anna Nordonan Hamling, he moved to Great Barrington as an infant and attended local schools, including the former Searles High School. Mr. Hamling was employed by Gans Furniture, Karr Engineering and, from 1957 until his retirement in 1980, by the former Eaton Paper Co. He enjoyed fishing. He and his wife, the former Eleanor Keefner, were married Dec. 7, 1940, in West Stockbridge. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Leonard Hamling Jr. of Stockbridge, Douglas Hamling of Gainesville, Ga., and Gerald Hamling of Otis; eight grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral and burial for Leonard H. Hamling Sr., who died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, will be private and at the convenience of the family, in keeping with Leonard's wishes. Expressions of sympathy in Leonard's memory may be made to Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Service, in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is in charge of arrangements.
