Mary Kickery

Mary Kickery, 87, of Laurel Street died Tuesday at Fairview Hospital. Born at her family home in the village of Interlaken in Stockbridge on Dec. 5, 1919, daughter of Frank and Bessie Hewitt Kickery, she graduated from the former Williams High School in Stockbridge in 1936 and from the former Berkshire Business College in Pittsfield in 1937. She moved to Laurel Street in 1984. Prior to that she lived on Averic Road in Interlaken. Miss Kickery worked for the Pittsfield office of Prudential Insurance Co. for 41 years, including 22 years as office manager, before retiring in 1981. Before that, she worked at several temporary jobs after finishing school in the midst of the Great Depression. She was a member of the Congregational Church in Interlaken and a soloist and choir member there and at several others, including South Church in Pittsfield, Church on the Hill in Lenox and HousatonicCongregational Church. After her retirement, she volunteered at Fairview Hospital's Gift Shop, for Elder Services, and at Berkshire Botanical Garden and the Stockbridge Historical Room. She also made more than 200 "Little Quilts for Little Kids" for a Children's Hospital in North Carolina. She leaves a brother, Donald Kickery of Monterey. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Miss Mary Kickery will be conducted Monday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington by the Rev. Steven Bridges. Burial will follow in Stockbridge Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Donations in memory of Mary Kickery may be made to the Nature Conservancy through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She also leaves nieces and nephews.
