Kathryn Crockett

Kathryn Crockett, 89, of Cagney Hill, Mill River, died Wednesday at Fairview Hospital. Born in Philadelphia on Jan. 11, 1918, daughter of Robert and Kathryn Ellwell Eberbach, she moved to Rockville Centre, N.Y., as a child and graduated from South Side High School there and from Columbia Presbyterian Nursing School in New York City. Mrs. Crockett married Virgil Crockett on Sept. 14, 1946, in Rockville Centre. In 1952, they moved to the Berkshires, where they owned and operated the former Mount Everett Inn, now Egremont Inn. A registered nurse, she worked at various hospitals until retiring in 1996. She was an active member of the Congregational Church in the communities in which she lived. She was a member of Old Parish Church in Sheffield and of the Sheffield and Pomona granges, serving on various committees. She also was a member of the Ladies' Aid Society, various Visiting Nurse associations and the Red Cross. While living in Centerville, Md., from 1981 to 2001, she was a member of the "homemaker club." She also was a past president of the American Association of Retired Persons, both locally and in Maryland. She enjoyed square dancing and was a member of bridge clubs wherever she resided. Her husband is deceased. She leaves three sons, George R. Crockett of South Lee; David V. Crockett of Stevensville, Md., and Denis C. Crockett of Vallejo, Calif.; a daughter, Kathryn S. Palmer of Mill River; a brother, William Eberbach of Indianapolis; a sister, Margaret Polette of Newton, N.J.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Kathryn Crockett, who died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Old Parish Church in Sheffield by the Rev. Jill Graham. The family will receive friends today from 4 to 7 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Memorial contributions may be made to Old Parish Church or to Fairview Hospital Scholarship Fund through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She also leaves two daughters-in-law, Martha and Joanne Crockett; a son-in-law, James Palmer; nine grandchildren, Robert, Andrew, David and Kathleen Crockett of Ohio, Sarah Sample of California, Rebecca Flaig of Delaware, David Crockett of Pennsylvania, Melissa Joyce of Monterey and Sandra Tinker of North Egremont; and eight great-grandchildren, Tyler and Erin Sample, Cole Crockett, Eric Flaig, Nicholas and Hannah Joyce, and Shelby and Madison Tinker.
