Guido P. Pieropan

Guido P. Pieropan, 82, of 66 High St. died Saturday at Fairview Hospital. Born in West Stockbridge on Jan. 25, 1925, son of Dante and Domenica Nascimbeni Pieropan, he attended local schools, including the former Williams High School, where his 10-1 pitching record earned him All-Berkshire honors. He was one of three juniors in his class to be drafted into the Army in 1943. An Army veteran of World War II, he achieved the rank of technician fifth class before his discharge on May 15, 1946. Mr. Pieropan owned Pieropan Oil Co. for 29 years, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church and a member of American Legion Post 254 in Stockbridge, the West Stockbridge Sportsman's Club and the Friday Night League at Cove Bowling Lanes in Great Barrington, where he sponsored and played for team Pieropan Oil. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, vegetable gardening and woodworking. He sponsored the Pieropan Oilers of the Housatonic Youth Basketball League and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox. He and his wife, the former M. Delores Rouhier, were married Aug. 9, 1952, in St. Patrick's Church, West Stockbridge. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Jeffrey P. Pieropan of Pittsfield, Mark G. Pieropan of Great Barrington and Peter A. Pieropan of Philadelphia; three brothers, Geno Pieropan and Antonio Pieropan, both of West Stockbridge, and Albert Pieropan of Shelburne Falls; and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Guido Pieropan, who died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church in Housatonic by the Rev. William Murphy, pastor. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. Expressions of sympathy in Guido's memory may be made to the Corpus Christi Ramp Fund, in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Guido leaves a daughter-in-law, Tracy Pieropan (Jeffrey); his son Mark's companion, Sarah Scolforo; and five grandchildren, Michael, Lindsay, Erik, Aimee and Kevin Pieropan. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events.
