Irene M. Kane

Irene M. Kane, 93, a former longtime resident of Melbourne Road, died Sunday at Springside of Pittsfield, where she had resided for five years. Born in Tonypandy Rhondda, South Wales, United Kingdom, May 6, 1914, daughter of William R. and Sarah Jemima Williams, she was educated in schools there. She emigrated to Pittsfield in 1945. Mrs. Kane was employed as a department manager at the former W.T. Grant Store for 18 years. She later worked at the former Ida and John's Restaurant and was a nurse's aide at the former Berkshire Nursing Home for eight years. A communicant of St. Joseph's Church, she was a former longtime communicant of St. Mark's Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality and choir. She was also a former member of the VFW Auxiliary. Her husband, John J. Kane, died Nov. 24, 1983. She leaves a sister, Eunice Davies of South Wales. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Irene M. Kane, 93, who died Sept. 23, 2007, will be celebrated Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church by Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to St. Joseph's Church in care of the funeral home. She also leaves several nephews.
