Jeffrey A. Newman

Jeffrey A. Newman, 61, of 261 Green River Road and 1609 East 55th St., Brooklyn, N.Y., died of a massive heart attack Friday at Beth Israel Hospital on Kings Highway in Brooklyn, N.Y. Born in Brooklyn on Aug. 29, 1946, son of Ralph and Blanche Newman, he attended New York City schools and was a 1964 graduate of James Madison High School and a 1968 graduate of City University of New York. He had spent summers and weekends in Alford since 1989. At the time of his death, Mr. Newman had been employed by CUNY as an instructor of automotive technology for more than 40 years., and was planning his retirement. A gifted automotive diagnostician, he enjoyed helping neighbors fix their cars, tractors and other vehicles. He and his wife, the former Kathleen Lee, celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary Aug. 26. They were married in New York City. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Robert Newman and Daniel Newman, both students at John Jay College in New York City. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Jeffrey A. Newman, who died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, will be conducted Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in Alford Center Cemetery by Rabbi Deborah Zecher, spiritual leader of Hevreh of South Berkshire. The family will receive friends tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy in Jeffrey's memory be made to the Alford Fire Department and Ambulance Squad in care of the funeral home. He was born in the city, but his heart was in the Berkshires.
