Jody Ann Bauer

Jody Ann Bauer, 45, of 20 Cobb Road died Thursday at home of cancer. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 30, 1961, daughter of the late Ralph C. and Rita Book Bauer, she attended local schools and was a 1980 graduate of Monument Mountain Regional High School. She received her nursing degree from Berkshire Community College in 2004 and, at the time of her death, was studying for her bachelor's in nursing at Elms College in Chicopee. After several years living in New York and Florida, she returned to her family home in 1994. A registered nurse, Ms. Bauer was employed by Baystate Medical Center in Springfield in the Wesson No. 4 Neuroscience Unit, which recently established the "Spirit Award" in her honor. Before that, she worked at Dakota Restaurant in Pittsfield and at Cranwell Resort in Lenox. She enjoyed gardening, painting, sewing, fishing, clamming at her weekend home in Charlestown, R.I., and doing house repairs and renovations at her homes. She and her husband, Stephen John Sheriff, were married Feb. 14, 2006, at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Besides her husband, she leaves her stepmother, Kathryn Goerlach of Pittsfield; two sons, Christopher M. Pizzichemi of West Stockbridge and Matthew C. Pizzichemi, at home; and three sisters, her twin, Jamie M. Kenyon of Housatonic, Judith A. Shapiro of Livingston, N.Y., and Jacquelyn A. Bauer of Easthampton. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Jody Ann Bauer, who died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Lee by the Rev. Daniel Papineau, pastor. Burial will follow in Rockdale Cemetery, West Stockbridge. The family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at a Celebration of Life service at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington. Expressions of sympathy in Jody's memory may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in care of the funeral home.
