Martha M. Crandall

Martha M. Crandall, 77, of 12 Monterey Road died Oct. 8 at home. Born in Otis on Aug. 24, 1930, daughter of Raymond and Irene Dorhamer Bliven, she was educated in Otis and Lee and was a 1948 graduate of Lee High School. Mrs. Crandall was employed as a home health aide for the town and was a former employee of Otis Ridge Ski Area. She was a member of Otis Congregational Church, where she was a deaconess and a member of the Ladies' Guild, and a former member of the choir. She enjoyed painting and writing poetry. Her husband, Donald E. Crandall Sr., whom she married Aug. 1, 1948, died Feb. 5, 2005. She leaves a son, Donald E. Crandall Jr. of Winsted, Conn.; three daughters, Susan C. Dillard of Otis, Martha C. Savard of Compton, N.H., and Irene C. Kavcak of Wind Gap, Pa.; two brothers, Francis Bliven of Palm Bay, Fla., and Raymond Bliven Jr. of Otis; two sisters, June Crandall of Otis and Joan Brown of Grayson, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Relatives and friends are invited to join the family on Friday at 2 p.m. in Otis Cemetery for a celebration of the life of Martha M. Crandall, who died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the Donald E. Crandall Sr. Scholarship Fund, in care of Otis Ambulance Squad Main Street, Otis. Mrs. Crandall leaves her grandchildren, Wendy Preston, Julie Lewis, Erica Crandall, Tracey and Charles Steady, Joshua and Autumn DeSantis, and Matthew, Sarah and James Kavcak; great-grandchildren, Faith Middlebrook, Timothy Preston and Jack Lewis; sons-in-law, the Rev. Thomas A. Dillard, Arthur H. Savard and Joseph M. Kavcak; and daughter-in-law, Jane A. Crandall. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Bliven, and by a sister, Geraldine Spaid. She enjoyed the outdoors and teaching her children and grandchildren natural history
