Levi M. Andrews Jr.

Levi M. Andrews Jr., 76, of 4 Columbia St. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Adams on Aug. 12, 1931, son of Levi M. Andrews Sr. and Anna Levesque Andrews, he was educated in schools there. He later was a longtime resident of North Adams, and returned to Adams five years ago. Mr. Andrews was employed by Climax Candy in North Adams for 20 years, retiring in 1994. Before that, he was a truck driver for more than 30 years. He also was employed by Butler Wholesale, by Whitney & Sons Inc. in Pittsfield and by the former Adams Super Market. After retiring from Climax, he worked part time at J.B. Paper Co. in Pittsfield. He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and enjoyed dog racing and playing bingo in Adams and Pittsfield and in Pownal, Vt. He was a longtime fan of the Boston Red Sox. His first wife, the former Norma Pellerin, is deceased. He leaves two sons, David P. Andrews of Adams and Christopher J. Andrews of Cheshire; a daughter, Michelle A. Dargie of Cheshire; a sister, Doris Kupiec of Adams; three brothers, Raymond Andrews of Pittsfield and Leonard and George Andrews, both of Adams; his former wife, Donna L. Dargie of North Adams; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A son, Alan Andrews, died in 1960. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Levi M. Andrews Jr., who died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, will be conducted tomorrow at 9 a.m. from DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Adams celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor. Burial will take place at a later date in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Andrews also leaves his beloved grandchildren, with whom he enjoyed spending time, Marcia, Matthew and Sarah Andrews, Shayla Malloy, Steffani and Amber Brothers, and Nathan Kondel; and his great-grandchildren, Alexis and Kylie Malloy; his daughter-in-law, Leah (David); and nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home, 121 North State Road, Cheshire, MA 01225.
