William J. Morandi

William J. Morandi, 78, of 38 Veazie St. died Saturday at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown. Born in North Adams on Sept. 22, 1929, son of Joseph and Yvonne Devio Morandi, he attended local schools. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he attained the rank of private first class. Mr. Morandi was employed by Unistress Corp. in Pittsfield, retiring in 1994. Before that, he was employed by the city of North Adams for 23 years as a police officer. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dr. George L. Curran Post 996. His wife, the former Margaret Theresa O'Neill, whom he married June 27, 1953, died April 10, 1994. He leaves a daughter, Jean Tatro of Stamford, Vt.; two sons, Thomas Michael Morandi of North Adams and Peter William Morandi of Lanesborough; and a grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for William J. Morandi, who died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, will be Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Francis' Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested for the Eileen Barrett Foundation or the CW Wing at Sweet Brook Care Centers. Mr. Morandi also leaves a son-in-law, Daniel Tatro; a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Morandi; his son Peter's fiancée, Julie Gardner; and a grandson, T.J. Morandi. A sister, Josephine "Lorraine" Harding, died March 18, 2002.
