Jane E. Ryan, 49

NEW MARLBOROUGH - Jane E. Ryan, 49, of Clayton Mill River Road, Southfield, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a long battle with cancer. Born in Freeport, N.Y., on Sept. 12, 1958, the daughter of Jean Pierce Goldsmith of Plymouth and the late Lawrence Goldsmith, she attended schools in New York until 1974, when the family moved from Long Island to the Berkshires. She graduated from Mount Everett Regional School in 1976. Mrs. Ryan worked at Sheffield Pottery for more than 15 years. Despite her illness, she continued working up to the time she was admitted into the hospital. She had earlier been a waitress and bartender at several area restaurants, including the Depot in Canaan, Conn. She enjoyed gardening and knitting, and her dogs and her cat were very special to her. She loved entertaining but above all else, she cherished time spent with her family. Besides her mother, she leaves her husband, Scott Ryan, whom she married on Sept. 17, 1988, at Christ Church in Sheffield; her brother Edward Goldsmith of Tallahassee, Fla.; her sister and brother-in-law, Adrienne and Steven Falconer of Carver, and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE - The family invites everyone to join them for the funeral services celebrating the life of Jane E. Ryan on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. at Old Parish Church in Sheffield, conducted by the Rev. Jill Graham, pastor. The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 10, from 4 to 7 at Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jane E. Ryan Memorial Fund, which will be used to support area breast cancer work, through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
