Leila M. Ferris

Leila M. Ferris, 87, of 96 Lincoln St. died Wednesday at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown. Born in Waterbury, Conn., on July 12, 1920, daughter of Abraham and Martha Haddad Ferris, she graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School in 1934 and, in 1938, from Catholic High School, where she was salutatorian of her class. After high school she moved with her family to North Adams Miss Ferris was employed by the former Roberts Co., retiring in 1985. Before that, she worked at the former Riseberg's store in North Adams and in Pittsfield and was a licensed masseuse for Lottie Harriman at the former Marion's Health Spa. She was worked at the former Wall-Streeter Shoe Co. for several years. She was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of the Lebanese Social Club. She enjoyed crafts, gardening and playing cards and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. She leaves four nephews and three nieces, including her caregivers, Diane O'Brien and Michele Kirby, both of North Adams. FUNERAL NOTICE -- At the request of Leila M. Ferris, who died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, a private funeral will take place at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place at a later date in Southview Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested for the Valley Vet fund or to the Parkinson'a Disease Association through the funeral home. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Freeda Ferris of North Adams, and other nieces and nephews, Brian Ferris of Williamstown, Wayne Ferris of North Adams, Janice O'Lear and Michael O'Lear of Waterbury, Conn., Teddy O'Lear of Southington, Conn., and William O'Lear of New Jersey; and seven grandnieces and grandnephews, Lisa Rennell, Kristie O'Brien Henderson, Evan and Katelyn Kirby, Brandon and Keith Ferris, and Elizabeth O'Lear. She was predeceased by four sisters, Josephine Ferris, Jeannette Ferris, Emily O'Lear and Josephine Ferris,and by a brother, William Ferris. She was a devoted aunt.
