John Elwood Lamphear Sr.

John Elwood Lamphear Sr., 98, of 901 Discovery Blvd., Cedar Park, Texas, died Dec. 2 at Sagebrook Healthcare Center, Cedar Park, after a long illness. Born in Manchester, N.H., July 12, 1909, son of John H. and Mary S. Lamphear, he was raised and attended schools in Massachusetts. Until the 1940's, he and his family owned and operated a restaurant in Pownal, Vt., and during the winter months, he was employed as manager of the dining room of a hotel in Sarasota, Fla. He was subsequently employed by the Cornish Wire Company in Williamstown until 1956. From 1958 he served as the Williamstown Town Clerk, accountant, and Justice of the Peace until his retirement in 1974. He moved to Sarasota, Fla., and lived there from 1977 to 1996. He then moved to The Island in Lago Vista, Texas to be closer to his family. In 2003, he moved to The Pointe in Cedar Park, Texas, and finally resided at Sagebrook Health Center in Cedar Point until the time of his death. A lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, he was a member of St. Johns' Church in Williamstown, and served on its vestry. He was also active with the Williamstown Lions Club, serving at different times as secretary, treasurer, and president. He also served on the Williamstown Board of Registrars, as well as a member of the Williams Lodge of Masons. He enjoyed collecting and dealing antiques, serving as a consultant and appraiser for major galleries in New York City and New England, as well as gardening and Boston bull dogs. Mr. Lamphear leaves a son, Dr. john E. Lamphear Jr. of Leander, Texas; three grandchildren, and one stepgrandchild. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for John Lamphear, who died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, will be held tomorrow at St. Peter's Church, Lago Vista, Texas. A second memorial service will be held at St. John's Church, Williamstown, at a later date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make memorial contributions in his name to St. Peter's Church, 3305 Pinnacle Cove, Lago Vista, TX, 78645. The FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPELS at 74 Marshall St., North Adams, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Lamphear also leaves a daughter-in-law, Diana; two grandsons, J. M.. Kere Lamphear of Podgorica, Montenegro and Matthew R. Lamphear of London; a granddaughter, Anna J. Lamphear of Austin, Texas; and a step-grandson, Arthur T. Kettelhut of Katy, Texas. He was predeceased by two wives, Regis Walker Lamphear of Bradenton, Fla. in 1970, and Bea Bradley Lamphear of Sarasota, Fla. in 1995. Mr. Lamphear was also predeceased by a sister and several half-brothers and half-sisters.
