William J. DeFazio

William J. DeFazio, 65, of 29 Morningside Drive, died Sunday at home. He was a former longtime resident of Delaware Avenue in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 12, 1942, son of the late Thomas and Julia Landsman DeFazio, he attended St. Joseph's Grammar School and was a 1961 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He served in the Navy as a radioman. Mr. DeFazio was employed by General Electric Co. for 26 years, most recently as a shipping clerk in the Plastics Division. He retired in 2001. Following retirement, he was employed part time at Pittsfield City Hall as the mail attendant. He was a volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and a longtime member of Berkshire Hills Country Club. He also helped and supported members of the Berkshire chapter of Gamblers Anonymous, of which he was a founder and 10-year member. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants. He and his wife, the former Marcia Jayko, were married June 8, 1968. Besides his wife, he leaves two sisters, Mary Ann McClure of Connersville, Ind., and Frances McParland of Meriden, Conn. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for William J. DeFazio, who died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, will be Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to Northern Berkshire Hospice in care of the funeral home. He also leaves nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by a brother, Vincent DeFazio, and by a sister, Gilda Palano.
