Irene M. Skorput

Irene M. Skorput, 74, of 47 Stockbridge Road died Saturday at home. She was a 25-year member of the Board of Assessors. Born in West Stockbridge on Sept. 9, 1933, daughter of Tarcisio B. and Diletta Dus Marzotto, she attended local schools and was a 1951 graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge. Mrs. Skorput was employed by the town of Great Barrington for 36 years, first as a clerk for the Southern Berkshire Division Registry of Deeds and retiring as register on Jan. 2. She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and active in the Republican Party. She enjoyed bowling and reading. She married Anthony P. Skorput Sr. on May 12, 1951, at St. Patrick's Church. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Anthony P. Skorput Jr. of Marion, S.C., and Jeffrey Skorput of Gainesville, Ga.; a daughter, Audrey VanderVoort of West Stockbridge; a sister, Rose Girdler of West Stockbridge; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Irene M. Skorput, who died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, will be celebrated Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy in Irene's memory be made to St. Patrick's Building Fund or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Mrs. Skorput also leaves two daughters-in-law, Tanya (Anthony) and Vicki (Jeffrey); a son-in-law, Walter; seven grandchildren, Seth, Weslyn, Jason, Nicholas, Casey, Crystal and Ryan; and two great-grandchildren, Leighton and Skylar Rose. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
