Charlotte Lillian Marcil

Charlotte Lillian Marcil, 85, formerly of 3 Potter St., died Monday at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown. Born in Adams on Aug. 30, 1922, daughter of Eugene C. and Mary Koehler Beasley, she graduated from the former Adams High School in 1942. Mrs. Marcil was first employed by the former Brightwater Paper Co. for many years before her marriage. After raising her family, she became employed by Excelsior Process & Engraving Co. in North Adams, now a division of Crane & Co., retiring in January 1985 with 16 years of service. She was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. Her husband, Oliver Marcil, whom she married June 1, 1946, at St. Thomas' Church, died Feb. 12, 1983. She leaves a daughter, Nancy M. Gwozdz of Cheshire, and five grandchildren. Another daughter, Mary M. Czubryt, died Dec. 5, 2002. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Charlotte Marcil, who died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, will be Friday at 9 a.m. from PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas' Church. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours are today, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family has requested the omission of flowers and suggests that donations be made to the Mary M. Czubryt Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home. The scholarship was established after the death of Charlotte's beloved daughter, Mary, who taught in the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District for more than 30 years. It is given each June to a graduating student of Hoosac Valley High School who chooses to pursue a four-year degree in elementary education or a related field. This cause was particularly dear to Charlotte as a way of honoring the many years of service her daughter had given to so many generations of students and as a way of promoting the field of education to young people. Mrs. Marcil also leaves two sons-in-law, Joseph J. Gwozdz and Henry J. Czubryt; a sister-in-law, Claudette Marcil; and five grandchildren, Sarah B. Gwozdz of Billerica, Alicia A. and Adam J. Gwozdz, both of Cheshire, and Jonathan D. and Rachel M. Czubryt, both of Adams. A granddaughter, Rebecca A. Czubryt, died Feb. 21, 1980.
