Michael F. Ciuk

Adams - Michael F. Ciuk, 95, of 27 Spring St. died Friday at Williamstown Commons, where he had resided since 2000. Born in Adams on Aug. 31, 1912, son of Jacob and Julia Milicek Ciuk, he graduated from the former Adams High School in 1931. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with Company I, 117th Infantry Division, in the European theater. He was an expert rifleman and received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart with three clusters and many campaign medals. Mr. Ciuk was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams until retiring in 1980. Before his military service, he was employed by the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates. He was a communicant of Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas and a member of American Legion Post 160, where he held many offices and was the post steward for many years. His first wife, the former Julia Hoczela, is deceased. His wife, the former Helen Bard, also is deceased. He leaves three sons, William M. Ciuk, Jeffrey A. Ciuk and Timothy D. Ciuk, all of Adams; a daughter, Frances C. LaFramboise of Adams; two brothers, Chester T. Ciuk of Adams and Thomas A. Ciuk of Camp Hill, Pa.; a sister, Lucy Flood of Carrizo Springs, Texas; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for the life of Michael Ciuk, who died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame-St. Thomas' Parish in Adams. Burial will be in the family plot in Bellevue Cemetery. The family will greet friends tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 8 Liberty St., Adams. Mr. Ciuk also leaves a son-in-law, Richard LaFramboise; a sister-in-law, Anne Ciuk; two grandchildren, Michael Estes Jr. of the town of Florida and Jillian Ciuk of Cheshire; and a great-grandson, Michael Estes III. Three brothers, George, Joseph and Stanley Ciuk, and two sisters, Victoria LaPierre and Julia Ethier, are deceased.
