Norman W. Auger

Lanesborough - Norman W. Auger, 82, of 1448 SE 15th St., Cape Coral, Fla., a former longtime resident of 10 Monica Drive, died Tuesday at Kindred Hospital in Central Tampa, Fla. Born in Spencer on June 18, 1925, son of Victor and Vida Auger, he attended and graduated from local schools. An Air Force veteran of World War II, he served from 1943 to 1947 with the 8th Air Force as a B17 tail gunner, and was awarded an air medal with six clusters for combat duty over France and Germany. He moved to Lanesborough in 1954. Mr. Auger was employed as an insurance adjuster by Crawford and Company in Fort Myers, Fla. after resigning Jan. 1, 1979 having served for four years as Town Selectman. He retired in 1992. While in the Berkshires, he was employed by the former R.H. Kelly Insurance and General Adjustment Bureau. He was a communicant of St. Andrews' Church in Cape Coral, and a former communicant of St. Charles' Church in Pittsfield, and North American Martyrs' Church in Lanesborough. He was a former member of the Lanesborough Volunteer Fire Department, was a former Selectman for the town of Lanesborough, and a member and past president of the VFW in Cape Coral, Fla. His wife, the former Elaine Larose, whom he married June 28, 1947 in Worcester, died July 18, 2007. Mr. Auger leaves two sons, Bruce Auger of Woodstock, Ga., and Brian Auger of Odessa, Fla.; and six grandchildren. Another son, Norman "Butch" Auger, died Dec. 5, 2002, and a daughter, June Alice Auger, died in February 1953. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Norman W. Auger, 82, who died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, will be celebrated tomorrow at 9 a.m. at St. Charles' Church by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will be in Mountainview Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The family requests the omission of flowers. Donations in his memory may be made to the Lanesborough Volunteer Fire Department in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. He also leaves his daughters-in-law, Nancy (Butch) and Carmella (Bruce) Auger, and Charity Buchanan (Brian); and his grandchildren, William, Eric, Kayla, Cara, Kelley, and Amanda Auger. He was predeceased by his brother, Victor Auger Jr.
